Gladewater is a city in Gregg and Upshur counties with 6,134 people at the 2020 census. U.S. Route 80 leads east 12 miles to Longview, and U.S. 271 crosses it in the center of town.

Antique Capital of East Texas

Gladewater was founded by the Texas and Pacific Railway in 1873. When the railroad made it the only mail stop in the area, residents of nearby St. Clair moved their homes here. In 1995 the Texas Legislature named Gladewater the "Antique Capital of East Texas", a nod to the antique shops that fill its downtown. Historic commercial buildings turned into shops and homes often have plumbing added and changed over many years.
